The Perentie is a large Oceanian lizard. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.

Description[]

The perentie is a member of the lizard genus Varanus, or monitor lizards. It is the largest lizard native to Australia and the fourth largest overall, with individuals reaching lengths of 2.5m (8.2ft) and weighing just over 20kg (44lbs). It is native to arid regions of Australia and generally avoids contact with humans.

Like all monitor lizards, the perentie is a carnivore, typically hunting small mammals and reptiles. Amongst reptilian prey are smaller monitor species and even juvenile perenties. Like all monitors, it has a mildly venomous bite which helps it take down its prey. It is a fast sprinter - even capable of running bipedally - and is a capable digger and climber. If threatened, a perentie will use its teeth, claws and whip-like tail to defend itself.
