Velociraptor is a small Asian dinosaur. It is an adoptable animal in all three Wildlife Park games.

Description

Velociraptor (Swift Hunter) is a carnivorous species of dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period belonging to the order of Theropods. It was a member of the Dromaeosaurid family, a group of bird-like dinosaurs identifiable by the large sickle-shaped claw on the second toe of each foot. Velociraptor was comparatively small, with a total length of 2.7m (8ft 10in) and weighing 15kg (35lb). It was identifiable by its slender, low-set skull with an upturned snout, full of serrated teeth. Like all members of its family, Velociraptor was covered in feathers, especially on its arms.

Velociraptor lived during the Late Cretaceous in what is now Mongolia. As a carnivore, it would have hunted lizards, mammals and smaller dinosaurs. Its large claws would have been used to pin down or stab at prey, as well as a possible aid in climbing. One well-known fossil shows Velociraptor fighting the sheep-sized herbivorous dinosaur Protoceratops, suggesting it was capable of tackling prey larger than itself. Due to its active metabolism, it is likely that Velociraptor was warm-blooded. It is possible that it may have lived and hunted in packs, but there is little conclusive evidence of this.

Velociraptor is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park and was added as part of the Wild Creatures expansion pack. Like all extinct animals in the pack, it cannot be adopted initially and must be bred back in order to be adopted. Velociraptor is bred back through Archaeopteryx, which makes Velociraptor the only extinct animal to be bred back through another extinct animal.

Wildlife Park 2

Velociraptor is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and was added as part of the Dino World expansion pack. The required amount of genes needed to breed this animal is 400 and costs $35,000. Its daily need and enrichment necessities include meat, water, running and jumping. They also prefer a minimum herd of 4, with 20 as the maximum number of herd.

Velociraptor on the box of Wildlife park: Wild Creatures

• Velociraptor is one of only two extinct animals to be adoptable in all three Wildlife Park games, the other being the Woolly Mammoth, and the only dinosaur to be so.

• The Velociraptor shown on the boxart for Wildlife Park: Wild Creatures is darker in colour than the Velociraptor in-game.

• In all three games, Velociraptor is shown without feathers, which it is known to have had.
