The king penguin possesses orange-markings on its cheeks, beak and front that help distinguish it from the emperor penguin.
Like all penguins, the king penguin is adapted for an aquatic life, using its wings as flippers to swim through the ocean whilst hunting for fish and squid. It breeds in large colonies on islands around Antarctica in incubates its single egg on a special brood pouch for protection.
